South Okanogan General Hospital Donation

For the past 5 years the Osoyoos Credit Union has participated in the Credit Union Collectables fundraising program. Each year a new stuffed animal goes up for sale, all of the proceeds going to a local charity, selected by the Credit Union staff. Last year sales of Buckley The Beaver raised $610.00, which was donated to the South Okanogan General Hospital to purchase a new Portable Pulse Oximeter. Mark Watt, the Hospital Administrator, came down from Oliver on February 19th to receive the donation and demonstrate the equipment to the staff. The portable pulse Oximeter is used to measure blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate.

In previous years many local charities have benefitted from the proceeds of the Credit Union Collectables fundraising program. In 2006, sales of Bramble the Bear raised $740.00 that was donated to the Desert Sun Counseling and Resource Center. In 2007 Mambo the Moose raised $660.00 for S.O.S. Brain Injury Society and in 2008 sales of Grunt the Goat raised $810.00 for Sagebrush Lodge Ladies Auxiliary. Recently, Kodie the Kermode Bear went on sale, and is available here at the Osoyoos Credit Union.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Each year, in an effort to support our community's youth, the Osoyoos Credit Union donates over $5000 in bursaries and scholarships to local students. Of the three bursaries, each for $1500.00, two are selected for donation to students from the Osoyoos Secondary School, and one is donated to the Boundary Seconday School. The scholarship, $1000, is selected for donation by the Osoyoos Secondary School. This years lucky winners for the bursaries were, in Osoyoos, Matthew Laluk, and Sherry Usher, and in Boundary, Shelby Lomas. And the winner of the scholarship was Justin Ferreira.

Museum Donation

During the Osoyoos Credit Union 60th anniversary celebration, in an effort to give something back to the community the 60th Anniversary Legacy Fund was created. Our board of directors got together to decide upon a worthy donation that would have a lasting impact within the community. After carefull consideration, the selection was narrowed down to three candidates for the Legacy fund award. The Osoyoos Museum Society was eventually selected by the Credit Union Members. Gayle Cornish, the Museum Curator, And Dr. Robert Ritchie were thrilled to accept the $60,000  Legacy Fund donation, which will be used to expand the museums archives and keep them in operation long into the future.
